Let’s take
Burnout: Paradise
and combine it with the destructible environments of
Split/Second
and powerups
from
BLUR
.
And I have just given you the ultimate arcade racing game. It can even be combined with the 2010 version of Hot Pursuit and be turned into an eSports-ready team game.

Change that to burnout 3 takedown instead and let’s make it happen!
Tracks are always better than open world for racing!

Okay but Blur is an amazing arcade game and I would kill to get a new version of it
... just without the drift nitro and M astermine spam in multiplayer

This all just sounds like Test Drive: Unlimited but nitro boosts. You did all of that thinking and somehow didn’t come to the conclusion that we needed a proper sequel to Burnout: Revenge?
For shame.
Counter-take: Crash and speed physics of Burnout: Revenge, high flying physics from rocket league, and customization of Forza/NFS Underground/Midnight Club. The burnout meter powers your boost on the ground, your jump, your mid-air boost/rockets, and aftershocks from crashes.

How is it that takedown and revenge still hold up graphically?
A shame what ea has done to the studio.

Criterion was at the bleeding edge of what the consoles of the time could handle, I’m pretty sure.

To their credit they made one good nfs game and the flying portion of the newest battlefield. That's something, right?

The games run at a great speed and have the design ethos based around that idea . The graphics are only ever “good” in a still image, but you crank up the speed and they work so well when you’re flying through the levels. Same with the F-zero game for gamecube. One of the best looking racing games ever since it was designed to look jaw dropping at maximum speed, not in a still shot. For a racing game about a lot of action and speed, you need to follow that principle or else your game ends up looking muddled and blurry at speed which is, you know, how you actually play a racing game.
Credit where it’s due, I recall Blur and S/S being just fine on that end. But they came after the games I just described so I hope they would! Paradise was a major letdown for me.

I reckon even just a base hub world is good enough. Not completely open, but it’s a launch point with shops, garages and a test area.

I couldn’t agree more with literally everything you said!
And, we didn't even mention how amazing the crash mode worked as a puzzle game as opposed to randomly crashing into shit!

They didn’t deserve to be abused the way they are. At least the people who are actually interested in making Burnout migrated away from EA, started their own company, and eventually made Dangerous Driving which is basically just Burnout 1 with some Burnout 3 . Their development ability grows in leaps and bounds.
They really need to come up with a better name though,

I could go for that. It would sub out a menu system for a driving system. But, at the end of the day it would still deliver apexes and barriers to memorize...as well as traffic flows!

OK, I’ll be honest: I just wanted Burnout but with map destruction mechanics (which work everywhere on the map, not just in specific zones) and onboard weapons . Also I kinda want to implement BeamNG crash damage modeling instead because that looks way more spanktacular.

I was livid when I found out Paradise didn’t have the proper crash mode puzzles.

I liked Paradise.....not sure if I want to buy a remastered version though. BeamNG is a lot more impressive in crash physics now.

hmmm... tbh.. i think i want something like what motorcity online tried to be..way back when
car mechanic simulator meets forza.. with maybe a dash of the eve online spreadsheets
spend your time racing for moneys/pinkslips or set up shop selling cars/parts you made to other players

Except, if you implement the damage modeling from BeamNG, you’ll wind up with every race being over the second you hit a curb at 5 0mph.
Unless you just mean the soft model physics in visual aspects only. ‘Cause that would be fun!

Yeah that’s what I wanted. Just the look and feel, not the actual collision model. I think Wreckfest’s physics are more comparable.
